Donna Preiss to Discuss the New Phase of Student Housing at 2013 Crittenden Multifamily Conference

Company founder and CEO joins other national multifamily professionals to discuss the lures and risks of the student housing market

RALEIGH, NC – January 15, 2013 – Donna Preiss, founder and CEO of The Preiss Company, will be one of over fifty national housing leaders participating in this year’s Crittenden Multifamily Conference 2013 to be held at the Ritz Carlton Dallas from March 17th-19th. The conference is a two and a half day event for multifamily professionals and includes eight hours of educational sessions, as well as several networking opportunities. Educational sessions cover a variety of multifamily management, finance, development, and investment topics.

Preiss will be part of a concurrent panel discussion that will present “Student Housing Enters a New Phase” on Monday, March 18th from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Scheduled to join Preiss are David J. Adelman, Executive Director of Campus Apartments and William Talbot, Chief Investment Officer of American Campus Communities. Acting as moderator will be Jim Arbury, Vice President, Student Housing for the National Multi Housing Council.

Topics the panel members will be discussing include what makes the student housing sector attractive for investors, the added risks for investors, the importance of management skill, the things that make owning/managing a student housing property different from conventional apartments, should a “newbie” develop a new property or buy an existing one and why, and the positive and negative signs on the horizon.

Preiss, who has participated in dozens of national housing conferences throughout her career, says that despite the continued economic uncertainty, student housing continues to remain robust and remains a solid investment opportunity.

“Student housing is one of the most active and healthy niche markets in commercial real estate today,” says Preiss. “The Preiss Company is getting quite a few requests to do student housing property management across the country. We’re working with groups that are developing new apartments, banks who have foreclosed, and investors who realize they cannot sell and must have good annual cash on cash return. We see student housing continuing to remain robust and look forward to building on our current industry accomplishments and successes.”

The cost to attend the conference is $695 for the first person, $595 for the second person, and $495 for three people or more. Registrations by phone or fax will be accepted through March 14th and March 18th for online applications.
