Autism Awareness Day

As April begins, we wanted to shine light on a cause that The Preiss Company holds near and dear to its heart. Each year on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day is an effort to not only speak out against the discrimination of people with autism, but also recognize the potential of people living with it.

We as a company encourage all of our teams to support each other in ways that extend beyond our day to day job roles. Year after year, employees from across our entire portfolio show this type of support by lighting it up blue for World Autism Awareness Day.

Vice President of Student Housing, Sara Clark and her family are one of many to witness how the support of many can impact their lives for the better. She says:

“Being a special needs mom to a boy on the Autism Spectrum has been an unexpected journey. But it has been a joyful journey and much more spectacular than I could have ever imagined. To say that the journey has been easy, I would be lying. But I can say that the love and support of my friends and co-workers at the Preiss Company has been a blessing beyond words. I am so thankful for the kindness shown.”

This month, many of our properties around the country are putting forth effort to raise awareness for autism and to fund research/organizations that support it. Donation boxes, bake sales, 5k runs, t-shirt sales, are just a few of the ways that properties are contributing to the cause.

Sara says, “I am especially thankful for the example they set of what it means to be inclusive, because inclusion is really all that special needs families wish for their precious ones- a kind hand and a world that welcomes them. We’ve found that at the Preiss Company. Thank you!”
