Students/Parents Get Tips on Selecting Off-Campus Student Housing, The Preiss Company to Be Featured on Designing Spaces™

RALEIGH, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The more than 17.7 million students who will attend college this fall will want to tune in to Designing Spaces, the signature home improvement television series on Lifetime® Television, Thursday, June 19, at 7:30 a.m. (ET/PT), to learn the latest insights and tips on what to expect in off-campus student housing.

“Today’s students will have an entirely different housing experience than their parents”

The popular series will feature executives from The Preiss Company, one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing student housing owners, developers and managers. The program segment was shot at the 288-bed University Village at 2505 in Raleigh, N.C., which serves North Carolina State University.

“Today’s students will have an entirely different housing experience than their parents,” said Donna Preiss, company founder and CEO. “Student housing offers much better and more affordable accommodations with better amenities than most current on-campus housing.”

Students can expect typical one-year leases for U.S. off-campus housing to run from $300 to $1,200 a month, depending on location/city and amenities. Each student has his/her own bedroom and bathroom and shares a common living room area with one to three other students. The rent includes furniture, all utilities, including high speed Internet, and an in-suite washer and dryer. This compares to dorm rooms which typically have two to four students per room and as many as 12 students sharing the same bathroom.

Show host Erin Dangler opens the program with a discussion on student housing trends and how to select the perfect place with Preiss; Adam Byrley, vice president; and Lauren Dalia, property manager of the Dail College Inn. “Off-campus student housing is more closely aligned to hospitality than traditional apartment leasing. This usually is the student’s first home away from home and we work hard to make them feel like they are comfortable in their new home. Student housing providers offer a large number of social events from cook-outs to volleyball contests throughout the year.”

“Students are looking for housing that fits their lifestyle, a home that fits their needs financially, technologically, physically and proximity to campus,” said Dalia. “Amenities play a big role, too, including resort-style swimming pools, Internet cafes, golf simulators, media rooms where you can streamline your projects onto an 80-inch TV, as well as a lot resident events.”

“We’re creating the special student experience,” Preiss noted. “When you walk in our door you should feel the energy of a clubhouse, know that this is a place where you could meet your best friend. This is going to be a good foundation for the rest of your life.”
