The Preiss Company Announces Appointment of New Manager for its Alabama Student Housing Market

New hire to oversee operations of 844-bed apartment property in Auburn

RALEIGH, NC – March 6, 2009 – The Preiss Company (“TPCO”), the largest provider of off-campus student housing at North Carolina State University, Clemson University, Auburn University in Alabama, and the University of Texas in Austin and the second largest provider at UNC Charlotte, is proud to announce that Dora Kenworthy has been hired as Property Manager of University Village at Auburn, the company’s student housing property in Alabama. University Village at Auburn is a 300-unit apartment property located within three miles of Auburn University in Alabama and was TPCO’s first student housing acquisition in the state.

In her role, Kenworthy will be responsible for managing the daily financial operations of the property, supervising the current property staff, finding and placing qualified tenants, developing rental agreements, enforcing tenant complaints and agreement compliance, and ensuring the overall management of property facilities.

Prior to joining TPCO, Kenworthy was the Regional Manager for Place Properties, a diversified real estate company specializing in student and military housing. During her three years with Place Properties, Kenworthy was responsible for overseeing the operations of seven student communities representing 2,400 beds in three states.

University Village at Auburn was TPCO’s fourth strategic joint venture with Harrison Street Real Estate Capital (“HSRE”). The property is available in one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments and offers residents such amenities as a theater/entertainment room, game room, exercise facilities with TVs, two swimming pools, a full indoor basketball court, and beach volleyball. Kenworthy says that she was attracted to TPCO because of the positive things she’s heard about the company, as well as their “family” approach to business and their employees.
“I really liked the ‘we’re all in this together’ attitude of the employees at Preiss [Company]”, says Kenworthy. “Everyone is ready to help anyone else. Open communication, positive reinforcement, and willingness to share successes and failures all equate to a better-managed property and ultimately a more competitive company. I’m excited to be among so many talented individuals and look forward to managing University Village at Auburn for success.”
Company founder and CEO, Donna Preiss, says that Kenworthy’s background and industry experience made her the ideal choice to lead TPCO’s Auburn property. “Dora has an extensive working knowledge of the student housing industry,” says Preiss. “It’s that kind of familiarity of the industry that is going to allow us to strengthen our presence in the Alabama market. We’re fortunate to have Dora part of The Preiss Company management team and look forward to her invaluable contributions.”
