The Preiss Company to Sponsor SPCA Benefit in Downtown Raleigh

Family and dog friendly event to support and raise awareness of homeless and unwanted animals

RALEIGH, NC – March 11, 2009 – The Preiss Company (“TPCO”), the largest provider of off-campus student housing at North Carolina State University, Clemson University, Auburn University in Alabama, and the University of Texas in Austin and the second largest provider at UNC Charlotte, is proud to announce their sponsorship of the 2nd Annual Hair O’ The Dog Benefit to support the SPCA of Wake County. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28 from 1-7PM at 101 Lounge + Café located at 444 S. Blount Street.

The SPCA of Wake County was founded in Raleigh in 1967 and is dedicated to creating a more humane community where every adoptable animal has a home. Each year the SPCA re-homes over 3,000 animals through its innovative adoption programs and lost and found efforts. The guiding mission statement of the SPCA remains as relevant now as it was when it was written in 1967: To protect, shelter and promote the adoption of homeless animals; to provide education about responsible pet ownership; and to reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.

TPCO founder and CEO, Donna Preiss, has been actively involved in the SPCA for many years and currently serves on the organization’s Board of Directors. In 2007, the company sponsored The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours networking event, which was held at the SPCA of Wake County Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center. Last year, TPCO employees donated $300 on behalf of Preiss and company CFO, Kirk Preiss. The collective gift saved the lives of six puppies.

“I grew up on a farm in Guilford County and have always been connected to animals,” explains Donna Preiss. “Animals have always been my best friends and so it’s no surprise why the SPCA is so special to me.” TPCO was SPCA’s first corporate supporter and deeded a cargo van to the organization for animal transportation.

Contrary to public understanding, the SPCA is not affiliated with the ASPCA and is not a government agency. The organization currently has over 500 active volunteers that contribute enough hours to equate to 13 full-time employees. A contribution of $1,000 enables the SPCA to rescue, vaccinate, deworm, test for deadly diseases, and provide spay/neuter surgery to 2 adult cats, 11 kittens, and 8 puppies.

The SPCA mixed drink sampler and party, co-sponsored by DowntownRaleigh.com, is family and dog friendly and will feature appetizers, prizes, a walking tour of downtown Raleigh, and local/original canine artwork. Adults are $25 and children 12 and under are $5. Only one canine per ticketed attendee and non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, and juices will also be available.
