The Preiss Company’s University Village at Auburn Sponsors 2nd Annual Blood Drive

Student Housing property attracts employees and residents to collect 17 pints of blood

AUBURN, AL – June 7, 2010 – University Village at Auburn, an 844-bed apartment property located within three miles of Auburn University in Alabama, recently hosted its second blood drive at the property’s clubhouse. University Village at Auburn, located at 211 West Longleaf Drive in Auburn, partnered with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers to host the event.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is a community blood supplier for local hospitals in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. LifeSouth is committed to meeting the blood supply needs of these hospitals in each of the communities they serve by providing the highest quality blood components and services. University Village at Auburn Assistant Manager, Mandi Harper, reports that the event attracted 17 donors (five employees and 12 residents) and collected 17 pints of blood. Harper says that she is aware of the critical need for blood in her area and is proud of her follow team members and residents for coming together to help meet this need.

“This is a great cause that we’re proud to be affiliated with,” says Harper. “This is our second year and we were very pleased with the turnout of our staff and residents in helping our local hospitals grow their blood supply. We’ll definitely be doing this again next year and look forward to partnering with LifeSouth to continue to make a positive difference in our community.”

University Village at Auburn is owned and managed by The Preiss Company (TPCO), which specializes in the development, acquisition, and management of off-campus student housing. Company CEO and founder, Donna Preiss, says that she is proud of the efforts made by her Auburn team members and hopes that their success helps motivates other Alabama student housing companies to partner with agencies like LifeSouth to provide these life-saving events.

“Giving blood is one of the easiest things that we can do in order to make an immediate and positive impact in our community,” says Preiss. “I can’t say enough about the volunteer efforts made by our team members in order to make this event happen, and I’m equally grateful for the staff and all of the students who turned out to give so generously and selflessly to this important cause.”

With over 30 donor centers, 37 blood mobiles, and over 1,000 blood drives a month, LifeSouth is committed to making sure that blood is available when there is a need. Because they are a community blood center, the blood supply collected from their donors directly serves the needs of patients at over 120 medical facilities throughout their footprint. Volunteering to give blood is giving the gift of life. For more information on how to become a donor or to sponsor a blood drive, visit www.lifesouth.org.
